Arrival
Students may arrive at school no earlier than 8:15 am. If you drive your child to school, please do not let your child out of the car until there is a staff member on duty to receive him/her. Your child should be inside the classroom no later than 8:45 and ready to begin his/her day. Rushing and arriving late can get the day started in a less than positive way. Students are tardy after 8:45 am. Please keep in mind that the students do have morning work daily, and when they rush in close to 8:45 each day, they do not have time to complete their assignments.
Dismissal
If there is EVER a change in the way your child will go home, I need to receive a written note. Please do not rely on email the day of in lieu of a note because I may not have an opportunity to check email during the day. You may also contact the office, and they will notify me of any change as well. No child will be able to change the assigned plan to go home unless a note/notice is received.
Absences
If or when your child is going to be absent, it is so helpful if you could email or send a note letting me know he/she will not be at school that day. It is easier to put the absence in the attendance system correctly (excused vs. unexcused) rather than having to change it after your child returns to school. If this is not possible, please send a note when he/she returns to school. We cannot count an absence as excused without a written note. Please know that our school policy states that family trips are not considered excused.
Snack
Please send a healthy/working snack to school each day such as: fruit, cheese, crackers, pretzels, vegetables, etc. Do not send cupcakes, chips, candy, desserts, or sodas. Students will only be allowed to drink water for snack. If your child brings in a snack that is not healthy, he/she will not be allowed to eat it in class. No utensils allowed.
Lunch
Parents may only eat with their child and not their child’s friends. Be sure to sign in at the office, and get a nametag.
Homework
Students are required to have an agenda and use it daily. They will record their homework in this each day. Homework will be your students reading log. It must be filled out EVERY night. At the end of the month a book report will be due.
Supplies
The supply list that was provided to you has all of the required materials needed for 5th grade. Each student’s supplies will be their personal supplies for their own use. Any supplies not used at the beginning of the year will be kept in their personal cubby for them to use, as they need. If a student needs a replenishment of any required supplies, they will be expected to note this in their agenda and obtain the needed materials promptly. Students will be expected to bring all necessary materials each day to school and will receive a consequence for not being prepared each day.
Parent Communication
Students will bring work home each Thursday in their Communication Folder. In this folder will be a weekly goal sheet. This will be a chance for students to share with you their goals as well as work samples. This is also a place for me to communicate any behavior or academic concerns. Please check this each Thursday night and return all papers signed the next day. Please contact me through email or by calling the school with any questions or concerns.
